Which mat is best for me?
There are several factors that will determine which mat will suit your needs:
  • Do you need your mats to be portable or permanent?
  • Will the mats used for heavy take downs or throws?
  • Who will be using the mats? Children? Adults?
  • Do you have a budget?

If you are doing throws or takedowns we recommend a mat that is at least 1.25 thick If you are primarily using the mats for striking with occasional falls, you may be able to use thinner mats. Please consult with a sales rep for further details or a recommendation.

Which mat is best for a school that teaches a mix of striking and grappling?
We would recommend one of the following mats:
  1. Swain Grappling Premium 1.5
  2. Flexi-Roll 1.25

What is the difference between the Swain Grappling Premium and the Swain Grappling Standard?
Both mats are made out of the same materials; they also use the same foam density. We do not recommend doing takedowns and throws on the Swain Grappling Standard (1 inch) mats. The Swain Grappling Standard is primarily used for striking arts. The Swain Grappling Premium (1.5 inch) mat is a much more versatile mat that can be used for most martial arts applications
